Just a flash of inspiration Carc.

The putting one had me stumped (yes I know that's cricket, not golf) so I thought I'd get in first on this one.

the answer 11+1+1+1 is not correct. Because it says you have 5 digits and you have to sum them up. so if you have 11,1,1,1 the sum of these digits is 1+1+1+1+1 = 5.

1+1+3+9 = 14 also not correct, because there are only 4 digits.

11+1+1+1 IS the right answer because if you write down 11 1 1 1 you wrote 5 digits and the sum of them is 14

It says, you have 5 digits and you sum them up. then in the sum 5 operands have to be.
In the expression 11+1 you don't sum the first two digits.
