setting the time

The only timepiece that Chris owns is a grandfather clock which he frequently forgets to wind.
One day when this happened,he went to Zaux's house to check the time. When Chris return home, the first thing he did was set the grandfather clock to the correct time. How could he do this if he didn't know how long it would take him to get to Zaux's house and back and he didn't use a radio, phone, etc.

Being Chris I've got inside information. So I know that I ....

Ooops, I almost let it slip.

Nah, I'm going to do it, I looked at the time on my grandfather clock when I left and when I returned. I added half the time I'd been away to the time I'd got at Zaux's house. Of course I walked at exactly the same speed each way.

good job Chris

the posted answer is that when Chris left his house,he wound the clock and noted the time. When he returned, the clock told him how much time had passed.

This was a common problem back before the railways standardised time across the country (England)and their timetables. Time was then based on midday and midnight at your location.
Chris is right.

Maybe they live next door to each other. Therefore, travel time is negligible.
