i'll say that one was born before midnight and the other one after.then(being twins)it's easy to understand how the names could have been switched/mixed up
I see Chris posted about the international date line, also. Here there's 24 hours difference. Other time zones differ by only an hour. Either would work. She would be moving west. It it had just turned midnight after the first was born, then crossed over the time zone, it would be 11 pm, so the second had almost an hour to be born the previous day.
I wonder if Chris is in a time zone where it already Wednesday. It's still Tuesday here.... If so, I posted before of Chris, right?
Zaux. LOL. Monopolize all you like, you're not stopping others from posting. But you need to ease up for your own sake, not for ours. You've presented us with a good range of levels and types of problems, and a stupefying quantity of them. You've also put a lot of effort into personalising them.
Thanks Ragknot ... I appreciate that ... but I have been monopolizing the posting ... and I would like to try to solve some. You noticed I said try ... some of you guys are awesome puzzlers.
I reckon there are 3 children in all, 1 elder brother and two younger twins. If the elder child's birthday is, say, August 16th, then the twins could have been born a year later on August 15th, which allows the youngest twin (and the elder twin, incidentally)) to have a birthday 1 day before the eldest brother..
Another problem is that if the problem is easy, then it get answered very quickly. But if it is hard, many people don't try it. If there are too many problems, then people won't have the time to do them. Either way you won't get many responses. Sometimes you get lucky and get a lot of responses - it's almost impossible to tell when that's going to happen.
I can only conclude it's best to post less often, but keep the difficulty level higher. Then perhaps, more people will try what's available.
I agree with Knightmare, post for all levels. Just keep the number of posts down for your own sake.
But I like it when Knightmare can't do them; he makes hilarious comments when pretending he's trying to. The brain crap one was priceless (as are many of his comments and ripostes).
patrice58. It's because they like to get it right. Your answer is wrong. You've got it the wrong way round your second born celebrates his birthday the day AFTER the elder brother; we need it to be the day BEFORE. Midnight is involved though.
No Knightmare! I thank you. You've made me roar with laughter (that's with you, not at you).
I can't thiink of a case where someone has said something (potentially offensive) about you, where you haven't taken it in the right spirit, and haven't come back with a wonderful response. As they say, you rock.
I take back the bit about midnight being invloved. The date changes by one day (24 hours), but for the problem, the twins must be born on the same side of midnight. I hope I've got that right now.

Because that elder brother isn't his twin, and that elder brother's birthday is one day later than the second twin's birthday.
actually they are twins
They crossed the international date line between the births.
Chris...that's cheating

i think Zaux is going for a record today.someone call guinness.
Knightmare. Both my answers were "serious". I don't see how the could be called cheating. On the other hand, your answer was cheating.
Nah, he's just come to that section of his book.
Leap year, elder was born on feb 29th, younger was born on the 29th and they choose to celebrate it going different directions.
Or what Chris said,
they went backwards in time, aka crossing date lines.
Chris...just messing with you ;)
They were born close to midnight.
The younger one lives in a time zone ahead of the other by at least one hour.
Perhaps the mother moved across a time zone near midnight. or maybe the international date line, so it was the previous day when the second was born.

It's 2 hours 20 minutes into Wed 3 Feb.
Sorry Knightmare. I meant to have put a LOL after saying you were cheating.
Not sure about the details. But I assume there is a 24 hour jump across the date line.
Chris ...you're good ... it is the date line causing the later born twin to seemingly be born a day earlier
sorry ... I've been monopolizing the puzzle posting ... I'll ease up ... I'd like to be able to try to solve some anyway ... heh heh
Zaux,
I enjoy your posts. I certainly don't have time to read all of them. But the more that's posted the better.
Your postings do not interfere with others posting. I can remember when days would go by with no post at all.
You are are a very valuable asset to us to ToM.
Do I hear a second?

I know it's addictive doing it though.

I second Ragknot's motion.
If you think you are posting to often, use the scheduler and move ahead, hours, days or weeks.
I hope you guys will post some ...

Hi Bilzebub. Read the first post and the response.
Zaux...to what Chris said...the difficult ones are great, but i like the easy ones too(makes me feel smart) ;)
ok Knightmare ... that's cool man

Chris...i would not post those kind of comments unless someone(like you) told me it was worth it.
thanks man
One was born before midnight and one was been after simple, I don't know why people are trying to make something easy hard.

The younger brother now lives in China while the older brother lives in the U.S =)
Using Judit's idea should allow the younger to celebrate 2 days early.
I can't get my nut round it.
