Bet it all on red ... oh wait...maybe black ...

Roulette has been called the "king of casino games". The very first primitive roulette wheel was designed, in the 17th century, by Blaise Pascal. Mr. Pascal was actually working on a perepetual motion machine when the idea came to him. The current version of the wheel was designed in France in the 18th century and had 36 slots in which the ball could lodge. Francois Blanc supposedly made a bargain with the devil to obtain the secrets of the roulette wheel ... this legend cam about based upon the fact that there were originally 36 slots ... 1 to 36 totals 666, the sign of the beast. Eventually european wheels came to use 37 slots and American wheels use 38.

One may wager:

a bet on a single number (the highest payout and least chance of winning)
a bet on a range of numbers
a bet on either black or red
or a bet on odd or even

Gamblers have devised and attempted many systems to use at the roulette wheel ... many have short term success, but the wheel will win if you play long enough ... unless, you know the SECRET.

What is the secret for guaranteed winning, during extended gambling sessions, at the Roulette Table?

Is there a limit to the amount of funds available?

If not then it's easy to simply increase your bet each spin to ensure that if you win then the payout is greater than the amount lost so far.

The amount of increase in the bet is dependent on the odds applicable to the bet being made for each spin.

Eventually you will be in profit, but you might need to begin with a huge pile of chips to get there.

Hi DualAspect...
for the sake of argument, let's say the funds are unlimited, and the length of play continuous. By continuous, I mean that you can't simply keep doubling up until you win and then quit. We're talking about a method to win consistently over the long haul. You obviously will not win every every spin of the wheel, but there is a strategy for winning over the long haul that is guaranteed.

Hi Zaux,

Surely you could use my method above, and repeat over and over.

I never said I wanted to leave after the first winning spin.

I know this is probably not what you are asking for, but it seems to satisfy the problem.

years ago, before camera surveillance, one could maybe steal a few chips while the croupier was distracted ... that's impossible with today's monitoring systems at the casinos

Dual Aspect ... find a wealthy backer ... I will rejoice when the TV news shows you as the first man to ever break the bank at a casino ... I'm being silly ...

I'm talking about a guaranteed way to gamble at roulette for an extended time, and win

The secret is to be the owner of the wheel. Gambling on the wrong side of the wheel is strictly for mugs.

One can guarantee a win by betting on all squares. The ball must hit at least one number thus a win is guaranteed. Alas, your expected value is negative, and as such is a poor strategy.

The best strategy to maximize expected value is.... don't play.

Systems:
Given an infinite bankroll and no house limit a martingale system could be used, but in reality casinos do incorporate max. bet limits and bank rolls are limited.

Non-guaranteed strategies:
Roulette wheels in reality do have imbalances, which can be taken advantage of, if significant, which skews the probability of hitting each number. Casinos do monitor these things and have the wheels relocated, to prevent tracking, and have the rebalanced periodically to prevent significant skew. As this is somewhat well known, many casinos show a sample of the last 50 or so numbers the wheel landed on, but 50 is far too small of a sample set to detect any imbalance on a wheel.

There have been a few teams in history who have capitalized on the imbalance of wheels. As such, it is a proven strategy.

Cheating:
Past posting, ball tracking, etc. will also help to gurantee a win, but as the risk involves jail, etc. I would have to consider them to be short term +ve expected value, long term -ve expected value.

The only way to consistently win at Roulette is to own the casino ... thanks Chris.

The payout rate for a single number is 35:1 (single 0 wheel), and for odds/evens, etc 1:1. The most favourable bets are on the even chances. But the bank has the advantage of 1:37 due to the 0. So you can't win, but you can lose more slowly.

If there really were a method, the casinos would introduce a rule to protect themselves. But they won't go bankrupt.

This has got to be a trick question.

Chris ... hello ... I already said you have the SECRET ... own the wheel... and thus the casino.

12:35PM post by anonymous said "Vegas always wins" ... but he didn't state the strategy necessary for consistent winning ... and that is as Chris stated ... own the wheel.

Th casino winning is not guaranteed, it is only highly probable. The casino has a good expected value.

It is possible, but extremely unlikely (P approachs 0), that the roulette table could, in fact, be a long term loser.

When a casino gets a table or a slot machine, they need to have a significant chunk of cash to insure against certain statistical oddities i.e. two guaranteed jackpots paying out on a slot machine back to back.

The casinos are gamblers too...
They just have a significant edge.

Hi Cam. I really didn't know that wheel imbalance could be that significant. I thought it was a lot of nonsense. Thanks for that info.

Zaux, your question stated:

Now, it turns out that the secret is.... "the wheel will win!"

I don't about the rest of you but.... I feel cheated!

I'm off to play online bingo again, oh no wait a minute, I can't win at that either!

Good Morning all. It is now 4 hrs after I read this question. I went onto gambling website and took advantage of their offer of having some "play" money of $1000.
I gambled responsibly (?)
I bet on Black, Evens and Under 18, using a doubling up system. Three bets each spin of the wheel.
Each win gave me 1 dollar.
Statistically the 0 and 00 meant that the odds were less than 50/50, but the payout was based on 50/50, hence the wheel being in favour of the casino.

After 4 hours I was ahead by $312.

What did I learn?
1. The strategy works on a computer, where you are not betting your own money - is the web-site trying to suck you in?
2. Maintaining focus and following the system actually became hard work. I only had to remember 3 bets, but it became increasingly difficult to concentrate. The desire to deviate from the plan and muck about became almost overwhelming.
3. I wouldn't try it with my own money! My biggest losing run was 10 red numbers - that meant I was betting $512 dollars. If that didn't come up, then it would have broken the bank at the time. All to win $1.
4. Roulette is a game of chance. Poker, Baccarrat, Vingt et Un etc all have a modicum of skill. Losing is down to your own skill/ability, not chance.
5. Individual effort may win, but in the grand scheme of things there are more losers than winners, with the biggest winner being the Casino.
6. I tried bingo once, but was trashed by loads of brain addled, drooling grannies. Never again.

well if you consider Winning as Not losing then to guarenttee winning every time but a) betting equal amounts on red and black at the same time, or b) betting equal amounts on odd and even at the same time
