The Arrest

A man enterred a gun store and began to request unusual quantities of ammunition. The store owner was suspicious and told the man he would have to go into his storeroom to get the large order. While in the storeroom, the owner called the police.

The police arrived and questioned the suspect as to why he needed such large quatities of ammunition. The man explained that he was having a target shooting competition and pulled the following flyer from his pocket:

------------ YOU ARE INVITED ------------
--- TARGET SHOOTING COMPETITION --
----- DRINKS --- BUFFET --- DINNER ----

Where? -----Straight Shooter Hunting Lodge
When? ----------------- Saturday, August 10
Who's invited? ------------- All Your Friends

Wiley Jane Ted Tom Art Corky Kate Ray Myron
Tracy Grady Trudy Hank Wes Norm Flo Dan
Andy Sandy

The sharp-eyed policeman looked closely at the flyer for several minutes. He then told the suspect he would have come to the station for more questioning.

What was it about the flyer which gave the officer concern?

There wouldn't be a "Target shooting competition" at a hunting lodge. There aren't real "targets" besides the wildlife, right?
(I've never been to a hunting lodge.)

Hi Austin ...
I guess they might have a target shooting competition if certain wildlife were not in season ...

but that's not why he was taken in for questioning

It looks like a hit list. But I doubt that's it.

seems like everyone who wanted a go at this has tried ...

solution:

at the bottom of the flyer, where the names are listed, start with the "w" in Wiley and then use every third letter, counting the "w" as number 1. The coded message gave the officer concern

I think it is because of the "DRINKS" part that concerned him
