What Does It Mean?

The following each represent a different word or phrase, and they have a common theme.

1. + am

2. jojojof

3. $a$r$d$

4. in ... not out

What are the 4 words or phrases, and what is the common theme?

Since this one was not answered completely, here's the solution:

1. + am --> Adam

2. jojojof --> Joseph

3. $a$r$d --> Richard (sorry, just noticed an erroneous "$" on the end ... )

4. in ... not out --> Justin

You wizards are so clever and such good puzzlers that this is one of the few I have posted which was not solved.

LOL, I still don't get the Joseph one.

The extra $ doesn't cause a problem. I would have thought $$$$ard would have been less oblique though.

Although they were words, none were phrases. They are all names.

I think Knightmare did brilliantly well. I didn't get any of them.

OK I get the Joseph (Josef).

I love cryptic crosswords, but you beat me.
