For the birds

There are two trees with birds in them. The birds in one tree say to the others, if one of you joined us, we'd be twice as many as you. The birds in the other tree say, if one of you came over here, then we'd have just as many as you.

How many birds are in each tree?

For the birds

*1) x+1=2(y-1)
*2) x-1=y+1

from *2) x=y+2
sub into *1
y+2+1=2(y-1)
y+3=2y-2
y=5

x=y+2=5+2=7

Answer:

One tree has 5 birds, the other has 7

You must have been bored out of your tree (groan) to bother with that one Cam. For the record, you got it right?

Let one tree heve X birds & another tree have Y birds

Now,
we know one tree have more birds than another
so let X 2X-2=Y+1...(2)
Sub. 2 from eq (2)
we get 2X-4=y-1...(3)
In eq (1)&(3)
R.H.S are Equal so L.H.S are also equal

So,
2X-4=X+1
X=1+4=5
