Rabbits and More Rabbits
A man bought a pair of rabbits. How many pairs of rabbits can be produced from the original pair, in a year, if it is assumed that every month each pair begets a new pair that can reproduce after 2 months?

I am guessing at 24 rabbits, or 12 pairs, assuming the original pair start producing from month 1. If they have to wait the obligatory 2 months, then 10 pairs?

Hi Chris ... Happy New Year to you... and to all our fellow puzzlers and problem solvers. Yes .. 233 is correct ... did you realize it is a Fibonacci sequence?
You guys are so good at problem solving, I am having quite a time finding problems of an appropriate level of difficulty. Most of you guys are much better mathematicians than I, but I really enjoy posting the problems and seeing the approach you guys use for the solution.

Hi Zaux (and everyone). I did recognise the Fibonacci sequence. I've just done a check, and the problem presented here is precisely the one he chose to include in his book, the "Liber Abaci", in which he introduced Europe to the Arabic numerals and the positional notation - I assume that he included the problem as a demo of that.
