Chris, at least THIS one isn't a math equation with more letters than numbers. Those aren't as 'fun' for most as they are for you. In fact, IMHO, THOSE posts have pushed many from this site.

Anonymous. If you don't like my maths and physics problems, simply skip them, can't take more than a few seconds to make that decision.
Not all my problems require advanced maths or physics.

How many problems would there be on this site if I wasn't posting? What evidence have you got that I'm pushing people away? What have you contributed except for negativity?

"how many problems would be here if i weren't posting"

few nice and interesting ones :)

Chris your problems are nice but boring also at the same time, do not take this as criticism. i like your questions but for the "trick of mind" in them, there still remains something to be desired.

Hi Anonymous, I see you are trying to be friendly, I respect that especially ofter my last response.

I'm sorry that you find most of my problems boring. I can only assume that is because you don't fully understand or can't do at least some of them, or maybe you can, but really find them beneath you. I can't do all of them either. I find some are boring because they are trivial or because they involve too much effort to do; but I don't feel it necessary to complain, I just skip them.

I'm also aware that there is a large range of ages and capabilities in the visitors here, so I do try to offer all levels. It is not my duty to cater for anyone, I'm not on the staff of ToM. But I do post simpler problems. Look at "17", it was pretty easy. I've not posted that many which are too hard (for a few weeks at least), until my SR trilogy, but if I didn't post them, I would have know way of knowing if there was an audience for them. You'll note that when I've pushed it too far, I stop posting them. I had a run of maths stuff, now I've just finished a run of SR stuff.

I have posted a few, just because no-one was posting at all. When they are naff, I usually say so right up front.

Rajesh Lal knows my email address, so I'm sure he'd contact me if he thought I was spoiling his site. Greetz.

PS I agree, too many don't really count as "trick of mind" problems, that's why I don't label them as such.

Chris,

One thing you do is a real ToM. When you delete your own post, we wonder what it was. Did you err? Did you lose your temper? Did you change your mind? Did you post before you thought?

It really doesn't matter.. it's just a ToM. :) I laugh when I see two close together. No one should mind. It's just a mystery with no clues.

Hi Anonymous. It is rarely because I lose my temper. The two main reasons are that I have some unacceptable typos or layout problems and more frequently because the posts don't go through. A lot of them were something like "kicking the post through". I do that because it forces the posts through. The two that I deleted above were kick posts, I had meant to say so in the PS post, but forgot to.

Hi Ragknot. Greedy b****r ;) I gave you dozens yesterday and the day before. Many of my posted problems get almost no attention.

I was just being friendly back to with Anonymous as we got off to a bad start (in this blog).

And yes, I tried to think of a few opposite words, but they were lame. I googled it and found more examples, and offered them as EXAMPLES... I should have added they were not my ideas, but I didn't til now. I did add my lame words though.

Ragknot, I could hardly think of anything so I was relieved when you got so any out of the way. I even toyed with "raised" but before embarrassing myself I checked that the other meaning was spelt "raze" or "rase".

Anonymous, thanks. I like the kid sister rule too. You can even tell it to trolls, as long as you add "one hungry troll fed" afterwards.

I am learning some of these that I had not considered. Pardon the copy and paste, please.

downhill
When referring to difficulty, it means "progressively easier"; but when referring to status or condition, it means "progressively worse"

handicap
Advantage (e.g. in sport) or disadvantage/disability

off
Generally, something being off means it is not operating; however when an alarm goes off, it means it has started operating (or when a person goes off, it means they have become very agitated).

outstanding
Exceptional, prominent, excellent; but also unsettled, unresolved, overdue

sanction
"To permit" or "to restrict" (as in "economic sanctions.")

execute
To execute a person is to end their life; to execute a program is to start it.

There you have it Chris, in your own words. Now, I wonder WHY they get 'almost no attention'??

Hi Anonymous. If you got a proper acount with this website, you'd get to see a useful overiew/control screen. In fact many of my problems get a decent amount of attention. I really made the comment as I'd almost single-handedly give Ragknot a 65 comment blog. Roughly speaking the more math/physics related the problem is, the less attention it gets. It's not that the problems are really dire, just that not so many people can do them. The trouble is I like them. It's also dificult finding new problems to pose. I've spent hours searching for problems to post. Many sites are pure math/geometry - it isn't feasible to do those here as you can't easily post pictures in comments.

I'm continually amazed at which blogs get very high postings. I haven't seen a pattern to it. Some blogs get a high count because I do post after post in them.

Yes, it would seem you consume the most of your time convincing yourself how right you are. Well, that and explaining WHY you think others are wrong.
