Our World
Most on Earth believe that they live in a 3-dimensional world.
Few, not very few, know that when a world is described as a x-dimensional world, x=the minimum number of coordinates needed to describe the exact location of any point in that world.
So,
regarding when a world is described as a x-dimensional world, x=the minium number of coordinates needed to describe the exact location of any point in that world,
which dimension do you think you live in and WHY?
**I just wanted to see what you make of it ^^**

All coordinates and measurements are relative. We call a "fixed" survey monument fixed, but actually the world is spinning on it axis, and orbiting the sun, which is rotating around the galaxy. For the most part, we live in a 2 dimension world. Latitute and Longitude define a point on the earth surface. Sometimes we need altitude. These same three dimensions can be called length. width, and height.
Time is sometimes called a fourth dimension, and in a way that is right.
Scientists now think we live in eleven dimensions, but proof has not been found.
But for almost all things, 3 dimensions are adequate.
that us according to string theory, they say there are 11 deminsion in which we exist in. our proof is in a photo graph were we saw an object exist in 2 seperate spots at the same exact moment. watch a documentary on what the bleep do we know. and this rabit hole goes alot farter too. its hard to comprehend cause physics has taught us laws and we were told they cannot be broken, quantum physics is now breaking those laws. its hard to unteach what we know especially in our physical interactions and what we have programed our brains to believe.
I live in "xy" dimension.
I say we really do live in a 3 dimensional world
if x=the minium number of coordinates needed to describe the exact location of any point in that world
the we would need (length, width, and height)
giving 3 dimension...right?
.: I agree with anonymous # 1
I would argue that we live in a Four dimensional realm. Three dimensions of space and one dimension of time.
But when talking about deminsions time and cordinates (x,y,z) cant be seperated deminsion because they exist together in our state. string theory praposes the idea of multiverse were there is 11 deminsions on so small that you may not exist, one were the world live its cycle in a day and starts over. those would be the ones describe at the outer edges of the strings but closer to the center is what we think we know and understand or could we be at those outer edges 3 deminsional object as topic discuses a drawing is on paper and a person is real eliminat
the word deminsional in 3 deminsional because that could not possibly be its own seperate deminsion. its a way to point at eaxct positions in a non-drawing world
The question was what is the (minimum) number of coordinates needed to describe the exact location of any point in that world. The answer is and always will be (three), no matter what world your in.
WTF? Can't you people write your answers so that the reader knows at least vaguely what the hell you mean? And I don't refer to bad English as that's my second language as well, but if you're trying to relay some information then please, at least make some effort to clarify what you mean ...
Clint, for example said "our proof is in a photo graph were we saw an object exist in 2 seperate spots at the same exact moment. watch a documentary on what the bleep do we know" - what proof? What photograph? What documentary? Where? On what subject? Or your last response on July 14th at 1:29AM ... what are you trying to say?
Now, db said just above me that "the answer is and always will be (three)" ??? Would you mind elaborating and not just stating some random sentence? If you want to describe the location of an object in our world, then 3 dimensions is NOT enough - if I move your object then it's NOT going to be found again at the location you've pointed to using x,y,z ... you also need to specify the Time ... and I'm not even getting at any of the higher spatial dimensions here.
It seems that Pete doesn't see the word minimum, he can move my point to any place or time and there will still be x,y,z coordinates to that point even if i were to move my location also. You can use a dozen coordinates to accurately describe the location of a point, but three is the minimum. that is fact not a random statement.
I am just a Stick Figure, searching my third dimension...;)
You need 4 dimensions minimum for ordinary purposes. Imagine a universal co-ordinate system, UCS, for reference. I know there really is no such thing, but astronomers can cope with that easily enough. Let's say you were at UCS(x,y,z,t) and you were in your house there and then. Then when you are at UCS(x,y,z,t+1 second) you'll be about 30 km from your house because the Earth is orbiting the Sun at about 30 km/sec taking your house along with it.
I've not allowed that the Sun is orbiting the galactic centre at about 220 km/sec. I don't know what speed the galactic centre has with respect to cosmological (average) reference system (that's starting to become philosophical).
... unless a co-ordinate system allows you to locate things (events in special relativity) with respect to other things (events), it is of little or no use.
A more down to Earth version. If you made a date with a friend to meet at a bar at 8 pm. If you turned up at 7 pm, your friend probably wouldn't be "there". Right place, wrong time.
3 dimensions of space, 1 of time, but there are also values of energy : an excited object is not the same as when it is not.
