Deaf Spy

A deaf spy is sent to spy on an air field. He takes a room in the boarding house of Mrs. Oldham. Every now and then, and at random, he makes an excuse to go up to the attic room in order to watch the airfield with his opera glasses untill he sees an airplane. He then immediately makes a note of this in his report and goes back downstairs.

Back in Oblivia, Funkov goes through the spy's report. "It is worse than useless," he says. "We already know that every single hour, day and night, exactly one plane lands, refuels and leaves in a perfectly regular fashion. And yet this report states that he finds 11 times as many planes landing as taking off."

"Hm," says his colleague, Khatzov. "That makes sense. We can get some useful information out of it."

What information can he had from these facts ?

They know that the planes are landing from the direction of the boarding house, and take off and fly away from the house. The spy can't hear the planes, but can feel them flying overhead as they are landing. He never hears them take off and doesn't feel them take off either because they are flying away from the house.

The house is directly under the prevailing departure path of the airport, and the attic window faces directly down the runway's arrival path.

Departing aircraft are only in the spys sight for the time they are rolling on the runway and a few seconds after lift-off until they pass over the house.

Landing aircraft, on the other hand, are in the spy's sight for a much longer period of time: many miles out while flying the approach and also while landing on the runway.

That the planes take 60/11 minutes do refuel. exactly 60 min later another one comes, refuels for 60/11 min and flies away.
The spy can only see the planes coming from that window, but they land, refuel and take off in some place out of his view, so he doesn't know when they go away, because he can't hear them.

They found out that the deaf spy could not count, because there were 42 planes landing each day. And each was taking off 42 minutes later.

i think the pilot don't do their job as stated their are more landing plane than taking off so the info that they know that every hour their is landing and taking off is false than the spy reported in other words the useful information is the pilot who uses the plane don't take off on the said time.
