Copy Paste

Copy: You and I are twins and today is our birthday. If you multiply our ages together you get the same number that you would get if you added them instead and turned the result upside down.

Paste: Yes that's true enough, But it was also true several years ago, and you didn't think to mention it then.

How old are Copy Paste now ? How old were they then ?

Twins are now 9
9+9=18
9x9=81

They were just born on the earlier incidence and would be 0 yrs.
0=0=0
0x0=0

Copy didn't mention it because he was a newborn and couldn't speak.

I know this is probably wrong, Ragnot, but I'm sure you will let the world know of your brilliance soon

As stated, by Anonymous above, the twins are now 9. This also happened when they were 3.

3x3=9
3+3=6
rotate the 9 around 180 degrees and it is 6.

Thank you for the answer Adam G. I just couldn't see the wood for the trees. I think that saying 0yrs was thinking too far outside the box.

So many correct answers? Could that be all? 96, 69 6, 9 and zero.

Is 1 one?

What about if they are 0/0?

That couldn't be right, because 0^0equals one, or so it was said, but it can't be proven.

Everything to the zero power is allways 1. So I don't think that zero could work.

i agree with adam on this one but at first i thought the question meant that u used the recipricle (spelled wrong isn't it) so i thought it was some weird fraction :)

6 Does not work!!
6x6 is 36
6+6 is 12, 12 upside down is 21

The answer is 9 now 3 then

3x3 is 9
3+3 is 6, 6 upside down is 9

I'm not buying it - 18 turned upside down is still 18. To get 81 you have to turn it through 180 degrees which is not the same thing in my humble opinion. Same with 6 and 9.

there's a difference between turning something upside down and flipping it upsie down. a flip implies a mirror image, which, as you said, would mean that 18 => 18. A turn implies some degree of rotation.

pramsay, the question asks you to turn the result upside down, if you wrote 18 on a piece of paper, and turned that upside down, what do you have? yes, 81. That is what the question asked.

So if you work through with 9 and 3, you'll find those numbers work.

first of all where do you get exponents (powers) anyway, and it could be 0,3,9, and infinte (plus others that i didn't want to take the time to list).
because infinite multiplied and added is still in finite and the symbol for that is a sideways eight

I know it is out there but it works

Ummmm, can you actually be infinite years old??? Remember to stay confined to the question.

Technically 0 works, but as far as their ages go, it states that she didn't think to mention it. You can't mention it at age 0, so I am still sticking with the correct answers at 9 and 3 years of age. No other ages work for this.
