Quogmoth

It is the first anniversary of the formation of the Zircon Zargo team. Each player, being a clone, secretly buys all the other players a ticket to Quogmoth, a revolutionary Ballet of spheres except for the goalkeeper who, being forgetful, doesn't buy any. As a result 1,183 dinglies are spent.

How many men are there in a Zargo team and how much are the tickets ?

There are 8 men on the Zargo team and the tickets were 169 dinglies each.

To Anon who said 169 dinglies each. That would be correct if you said each player spent 169 dinglies on their tickets, which means that each ticket is 24.14286 dinglies.

The first answer (14 players & 7 dinglies) is much more logical.

Can you show me the math on the 14/7 answer?

I had it in my head last night before I went to bed, but now I can't follow/remember it...Like a tune you once heard but can not remember.

So much for the old saying, "Better sleep on it..."

Here's the math on my 14/7 answer:

If n is the no of players in the team, and each buys a ticket for each of the others, then the number of tickets purchsed would be n(n-1). However, the goalkeeper forgets, so the actual total of tickets is (n-1)(n-1), ie a square number. The total cost is 1183 dingles, which is 13*13*7.
So n=14 and the tickets are 7 dingles each.

Thanks! Yes, that's it I see now.

I was interpreting that each player was buying himself a ticket when he was "secretly buys all the other players a ticket".

So, I was getting n*n instead of n(n-1).

Thanks again...

It could be...

3 Players Ticket Cost= 295.75
6 Players Ticket Cost= 47.32
11 Players Ticket Cost= 11.83
14 Players Ticket Cost= 7
27 Players Ticket Cost= 1.75
66 Players Ticket Cost= 0.28

Or maybe
131 players and tickets cost 0.07

How about 2 players, ticket cost 1183?

Taking it to extremes:
For any number of players n (>1) ticket cost = 1183 / (n-1)^2

Everyone is wrong. It says...

How many men are there in a Zargo team and how much are the tickets?

We all know that the Zircon Zargo team is all women.

either i'm ill informed or technically it can be undefined as anywhere between 0 and infinity since you can go to small decimals with more players plus it specifies men as the amount and gender specific team is not specified nor gender split

(wow i feel really smart now)

I say there is only one because if their clones they would all forget and he spent the money on something else
