Heavenly Problem

I know this is very religious.
If you don't believe in Heaven, then just pretend for this problem.

There is a hotel in Heaven called Heaven Hotel.
It has an infinite amount of rooms.
But one day, the manager angel lost count of how many rooms are occupied so puts up a sign that says, "No Vacancy" on the front gate.
That same day the manager angel put up the sign, a spirit flies over to Heaven.

"What! No vacancy! But I have travelled so far and suffered so much.
I want to get into Heaven! Please let me in!!" the spirit cried.

Being an angel, a merciful angel, the manager angel tries to make a room for the spirit.

How will the manager angel do it?

take down the no vacancy sign
if it has an infinite amount of rooms
then it does not matter how many are in right now, right?
or am i missing something...

ask god how many angels are in the hotel. then he can take down the no vacancy sign and keep track from there.

Let x be the number of guest in the hotel. Because the manager had to put up the "No Vacancy" sign, this implies that there was vacancy prior to losing the count. This concludes that the number of guest is between 0 and infinity because there are still rooms vacant; x is a finite number.

A simple solution is to have the spirit be placed into the first room, the guest in the first room gets relocated into the second room, the guest in the second room gets relocated into the third room and so on. This process of relocation will occur a finite amount of times per guest.

This solution will always work because there is an infinite amount of rooms for a finite amount of guest, meaning there will always be an empty room for a guest to move into.

He told the spirit to go to the last room. That should keep it busy for an eternity, to hide the Managers incompetance.

In my own view i think the angel has to take down the no vacancy sign and then find him a place to sleep or stay.

I agree with Sam. In his solution an infinite amount of guests can be put up by continuously moving each guest to the next room up.

Since there is no room in the inn, he should put the spirit in the manger in the barn, and get three wise men to visit him with gifts, and a star to mark his location.

He could also get all the guests to move to a room that is double the number of the room that they are currently in (i.e. person in room 1 goes to room 2, person in room 5 goes to room 10) this way he has double the amount of free rooms and the new arrival has a fine selection to choose from XD and as this is Heaven then nobody will complain about being asked to move rooms :D

Doesn't sound much like heaven. Sounds just like here on earth.

People have jobs.
People need shelter.
Complaining customers.
Demanding customers.
Incompetent hotel managers.
Fallible memories.
