Smart People Pass

Alice, Bob and Charlie are having true conversations:

Alice says "Only one of us is smart. If I am not smart I will not pass the English Test"

Bob say "The smart person is the only person not to pass one of the two subjects. If I am smart I will pass the English Test."

Charlie says "If I am smart, I will pass Maths, If I am not smart, I will not pass Maths "

Are you smart enough to find out, Who is smart and Who will pass ?

All Alice, Bob, and Charlie are equally smart, but again, they will all fail one test. So not one of them is smarter than the other. Alice will fail English, Bob will fail Math, and Charlie with fail Math.

Its obvious that alice would pass. Why, because it may seem the Bob could have passed but if you look at it agian, it clearly says, "The smart person is the only person not to pass one of the two subjects." Hmmm, the smart person is the only person not to pass.... While Alice said Only one of them would, and if she is she will pass. So, Alice is more than likely the smart one. Not Bob.

Alice would be the smart one. Bob said the smart person would only pass one, not both. Charlie uses the word maths instead of math.

...the only person not to pass one of the two subjects. meaning not to pass one, but both. If alice is NOT smart, she will not pass the english test. This suggests she will certainly pass math. If bob passes the english test, only then will he be smart, suggesting he is relying on it, and will certainly fail math. Charlie's comments also suggest a certainty that he will fail english, and is relying upon math to save his bacon. Alice is the only character with a certainty to pass math

Alice is the smart one.

Stating that they would pass or fail any particular test does not mean they would pass or fail the other - that is still an unknown.

Bob's statement that the smart person is the one not to pass one of the tests means that the smart one would fail both.
To put that another way - To pass both tests would mean that you had passed one of them, to pass one of the tests would mean that you passed one of them, so to put the word 'not' before this means that they did neither and failed both).

Who could fail both and be the smart one?
Carlie says that if he was the smart one he would pass Maths - so he cannot be the smart one.
Bob says that if he was the smart one he would pass English - so he cannot be either.

Alice on the other hand states that if she was NOT smart she would fail the English test - this does not mean that if she WAS smart that she would pass it, just that she would fail if she wasn't.

So Alice is the smart one.

For logic puzzles aimed at smart people, these tend to suffer from really poor wording.
You could honestly interperet the phrase "not to pass one" to mean: passing two, passing one but failing the other, or failing both.
Each interpretation can be defended using standard usage guidelines. It's just poor writing.

Alice is missing a period in her sentence, but she is using correct grammar. I'm not sure if you are supposed to notice that there is no period or not. Charlie will obviously not pass english. Honestly, I think there needs to be a better explanation as to what you are suppose to be looking for.
