It Could Happen To You
Michael was going to his hometown to see his mother who had fallen ill suddenly. He had been driving through the hills since mid-night. The day had just broken and he was happy to get a view of the country he was passing through. Suddenly he had to jam the brakes when a missing culvert alerted him. He did managed to stop just in time and was glad he had not driven over it during the hour of darkness. Perhaps the culvert had been washed away by rain the previous evening.
After he got over the initial shock, he went about inspecting the site with the idea of finding a diversion but due to the nature of the terrain, any bypassing seemed impossible. It had to be over the missing culvert; but what chances was there of making it, he wondered !
Three meters of the road was not there and the car was five meters long. He noticed that there was a gradual climb of one in ten just before the culvert and that the road on the far side was level with the near end of the culvert. He estimated that his car could pick up a speed of atleast seventy two kilometers an hour just before the jump. It occured to him that he could make it. He had been known to be a brave man; moreover the love for his mother inspired confidence.
"It's now or never," he thought and off he went.
Did he make it ?

I don't think he made it because the part he overlooked is that there is a pipe under the culvert -_-
whats a culvert?
i don't think he did either, if there was a gradual clumb before hand then as it came over the culvert his car would tilt upwards sending the bottom half of his car down along with the rest.
i may not be right but it is just a guess, correct me if i am wrong.
did he remove any weight from his car? or possibly jump out at the last second like in one of those action movies?
I think he made it.
The second anonymous, he said "one in ten" so, the car wouldnt raise too much.
what the heck is a CULVERT!!!!!!??????????
A culvert is a large pipe cut in half buried in the ground to allow water to drain.
(It could also be more than half a pipe)
I think he could do it.
He made it... I cant explain properly because i thought of it in my own language(Gujarati).
1. The road is sloped while on the other side the road is level.
2.He is going at a The mising curvet was only 3m while his car was 5m,
So before the back of his car left the road , the front would have already reached the other side.
I cant explain in more detail sorry.
correct me if i am wrong.
I once jumped somewhere over 150m in burnout paradise going about 150 mph or about 300 km
.
300 - 70 = 4.29 or something
.
so im pretty sure he can jump at least 4.29m
i think hes dreaming
yes he made it to see his mother. After all, he does love her.
I think that according to the Laws of Physics he would not make it.
he made it but the front end of his car got smashed as the back end was in the air setting of the air bags and recking the engine, so in the end he could never make it to his mother making it a failure. so he made the jump but never made it to his mothers so he in a way failed
i dunno how long is 'one in ten'....cant really calculate...
testing our projectile motion izzit...
think can make it la...at most his car stuck in between, the he can climb over his car n used it as a bridge to the other side...zzz
I don't know, but I think it depend on him and his car's weight. The second condition is whether or not he could make the car pump from 0 to 72km/h within 5m?
